    Does anyone actually think...

that there's a "War on Christmas"? Just wondering who thinks that, I think it's just a myth IMO.

I dont know about a "War on Christmas" but theres definitely too much concern for political correctness when it comes to the holiday season.

It's not a war on Christmas but the same war against Christ and Christianity that has been around for 1000's of years. You have to remember that Christmas is a holiday grounded in Christianity and faith in God and celebrating the birth of Jesus. You have a great number of people that proclaim that they are athiests and have no belief in God and they want to take everything pertaining to Christ out of the holiday. They don't like/believe in everything the holiday is based on but they love the time off and everything else they get because of it and still celebrate it. Which reminds me you had a thread about what to get your girlfriend for "Christ"mas but you don't believe in Christ, why??? Since you don't believe in Christ why do you even acknowledge his holiday and participate in how it is celebrated?

Oh well it is, I sincerely hope you and your family and loved ones have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Yeah, seeing as Jesus was really born in the summer months, probably June/July/August, Christmas is really a Christian holiday. :/

What's so offensive about Happy Holidays? There are tons of people who celebrate other holiday's this time of the year. Jewish people, Jevohah's Witnesses, Kwanzaa all occur during the same time frame.

Why is it so damn hard to say Happy Holidays? Why do you feel the need to make people say Merry Christmas? Its the same ole thing, they gotta have it their way or no way at all.

Happy Holidays is perfect for the situation, yet some Christians have a cow because people arent groveling to their religion and get offended when they arent the most important thing in the world.

So Beast, I hope you and your family have a HAPPY HOLIDAY

    Re: Does anyone actually think...

Nobody said anything about other holidays or other religions, the question was about Christmas. Christmas is a holiday based in Christianity and the birth of Jesus Christ, the word is derived from Christ's Mass. "The date of commemoration is not known to be Jesus' actual birthday, and may have initially been chosen to correspond with either a historical Roman festival or the winter solstice."

You may want to try and learn a little bit about the subject before opening mouth and inserting foot.

    Re: Does anyone actually think...

The thing is, there's no atheist war on Christianity either. It's been looked over and seen as "okay" when it's imposed on others, now other groups have called it out...and christians turn it into some attack on them, that they're innocent and all the other groups are out to get them. Bull.

But Stripes hit it on the head, there is a lot of PC going on during this time, but from what I've seen..it has little to do with the non-believers side that beast went on a rant about, it's mostly just businesses/corporations wanting to protect them self and not lose sales because a group may be offended. Saying "Happy Holidays" offends no one and shows no favoritism.

    Re: Does anyone actually think...

I am one of those people that if you were to come up to me and say "Happy Holidays" I would say "Merry Christmas". It doesn't offend me when someone says "Happy Holidays" and it shouldn't offend someone when I say "Merry Christmas". It may be just that to that person a Happy Holiday just like to me its Merry Christmas. I know for me and my family its Christmas and if you and your family want it to be a Holiday for your family then so be it. Neither side should be offended, its all in what you feel and believe, no one can take that from you. Its gonna come down to the point that everyone is going to be offended about everything and every holiday and there won't be any holidays so no one will be offended.

Political correctness and all this offending people sucks these days and everyone is afraid to say what they feel. I think its stupid to fight over little things when if everyone would put as much effort into fighting things such as child abuse, hunger, domestic violence, and so on the world may just be a better place. That, though, may be too much to ask for!

I know quite a bit about the holiday, I know that it is a PAGAN holiday.

If the date was chosen because of a Roman festival or a winter solstice, what in the world does that have to do with Christianity? nothing.

Its like this; you said you have a problem with saying Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas. I pointed out that other religions have holidays around this time of the year, not just Christianity, therefore Happy Holidays is more than appropriate.

I have no problems with Merry Christmas, but you should have no problems with Happy Holidays.
